Composition for oxidation dyeing keratin fibres, preferably hair, comprises: (a) at least one of 2-amino-3-hydroxypyridine or its acid addition salts as the first coupling agent; (b) at least one oxidation base selected from 4-(NR1R2)-3-(R3)-aminophenol (ring substituted by R4), 4-amino-3-(R6)-2-(R5)-phenol and their acid addition salts; and (c) at least one 3-(NHR7)-4-(R8)-6-(R9)-phenol or its acid addition salts as the second coupling agent. R1 = H, 1-4C alkyl, monohydroxy(1-4C)alkyl, polyhydroxy(2-4C)alkyl, alkoxy(1-4C)alkyl, phenyl or 4'-aminophenyl; R2, R7 = H, 1-4C alkyl, monohydroxy(1-4C)alkyl or polyhydroxy(2-4C)alkyl; R3 = H, halo (e.g. Cl), 1-4C alkyl, monohydroxy(1-4C)alkyl or hydroxy(1-4C)alkoxy; R4 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R5 = H, 1-4C alkyl, monohydroxy(1-4C)alkyl, alkoxy(1-4C)alkyl or amino(1-4C)alkyl; R6 = H, F, 1-4C alkyl, monohydroxy(1-4C)alkyl, polyhydroxy(2-4C)alkyl, amino(1-4C)alkyl, cyano(1-4C)alkyl or alkoxy(1-4C)alkyl; R8 = H, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, Cl, Br or F; R9 = H, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, monohydroxy(1-4C)alkyl, polyhydroxy(2-4C)alkyl, monohydroxy(1-4C)alkoxy or polyhydroxy(2-4C)alkoxy; provided that: (i) when R2 is beta -hydroxyethyl and R1 and R4 are H, then R3 is other than Me; (ii) when R2 is beta -hydroxyethyl and R1 and R3 are H, then R4 is other than Me in the 6-position; (iii) at least one of R5 and R6 is H; and (iv) at least one of R7-R9 is other than H.
