The method requires using a neural network for determining at least one of the parameters depending on the composition of the steel and/or the ambient influences acting on the steel. The neural network is trained with at least one of the parameters to be determined, with data such as the composition of the steel or selected characteristics of the composition of steels for which the parameters are known.
