Apparatus for filtering air withdrawn from a food cooking device comprises a first chamber B and a second chamber E. The chambers are interconnected by a ring of ports 31. An outlet 26 at the top of chamber B is connected to means for extracting air from the first chamber B. An inlet 28 at a level above the port or ports connects the chamber E to a cooking device. A filter 33 is disposed within the first chamber B. Liquid is supplied to the system so as to cover the ports and is drained 37 off to remove food essences deposited in the water.
