PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject resin usable for a binder resin for a toner for electrophotography, comprising a copolymer consisting of anα-olefin and specific maleic acid anhydride and/or maleic acid anhydride. SOLUTION: This resin comprises a copolymer composed of anα-olefin and maleic acid anhydride and/or a maleic acid ester which is partially, preferably 5-80 mol.% subjected to addition and/or cross-linked with preferably a bifunctional or polyfunctional amino compound by amidation reaction. The copolymer comprises a structural unit A of formula I(R is H or a 1-20C alkyl) and a structural unit B of formula II and/or formula III (R' is a 1-20 alkoxyl) and has 20-150 degree of polymerization, the ratio of structural unit A:B of 20:80 to 80:20 and 60-120 deg.C endothermic peak temperature (different scanning colorimeter).
