<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve system for an internal combustion engine not to use a drive unit for variable regulation of a valve lift timing. SOLUTION: A variable valve device transmits rotation of a cam shaft 4 to cam rope 6 through an inconstant velocity joint 8. This constitution properly varies the rotation phase of a cam part 12 to provide optimum valve lift characteristics. In the inconstant velocity joint 8, an engagement disc 20 makes slide contact with an eccentric bearing part 18 along with rotation of the cam shaft 4 and is rotated around a second rotation center O2 . In this case, a lock unit 40 constrains rotation of a control disc 16 against drag rotation torque exerted by the engaging disc 20 and fixes the second rotation center O2 in a desired position. Meanwhile, since, when constraint by the lock unit 40 is released, the control disc 16 is naturally rotated by drag rottion torque, the second rotation center O2 is naturally moved.</p> |
