PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dissolve an elevator user's inconvenience significantly even upon a great earthquake followed by the activation of both of a first seismoscope and a second seismoscope, by automatically resetting these seismoscopes under fixed conditions so that the normal continuous operation is allowed promptly. SOLUTION: The automatic earthquake-return mechanism incorporates a continuous operation circuit, which includes an abnormality detection circuit 15 for detecting whether the normal operation of an elevator is allowed or not, an inching operation command circuit 16 for moving the elevator vertically at low speed or inching it within a range of±1,000 mm if the abnormality detection circuit 15 decides that there occurs no abnormalities, and a low seismoscope reset circuit 17 for automatically resetting a second seismoscope or low seismoscope 11 if the inching command circuit 16 causes no abnormalities.
