[Class 39 (i)] An electrode for use in a high pressure metal vapour discharge device consists of a tungsten rod 1- which may form the lead in-surrounded by a tungsten helix 2 of two diameters, one near the end small enough for the helix to grip the rod ; a sintered tube 4 of thoria and alkaline earth is placed between the rod and the larger helix, the tube being held in place by a smaller turn 7. The end of the rod is convex; a tube may be used in place of the rod. The filling is of a rare gas and mercury which is at full operation at a pressure of 5 atmospheres. An auxiliary starting electrode may be used with each main electrode. Specification 507,445 is referred to. |
