The method involves handling telephone connections over the internet (IN) between a network gateway (IWU1) decisive for a calling subscriber and a network gateway (IWU2) decisive for a called subscriber. The telecommunications network (PSTN1) of the calling subscriber (ATL), as well as the network gateways are operated by the same supplier. The access of the calling subscriber to the network gateway and the transmission of the dialled number of the called subscriber to the network gateway are made dependent on the labelling of the call as an internet call and of the result of an access right confirmation. Such a connection for the combined use of the telephone system and the internet is billed as a normal connection using the telephone system, commencing from its realization.
