Apparatus used in the manufacture of laminated sheets for the assembly of a stack of press materials on a metallic pressure sheet, the stack of press materials including a lower metal foil, a substrate mat positioned thereon, and an upper metal foil placed on top of the substrate mat, for the placement of the pressure sheet with the stack of press materials supported thereon onto a metallic transport sheet having an underpadding thereon, and for the placement of a cover padding and a metal cover sheet onto the stack of press materials includes an assembly station, a pressure sheet transfer conveyor and a substrate mat transfer conveyor, which conveyors are respectively provided with a copper foil pull-in station for the depositing of the lower and the upper metal foil respectively. The pressure sheet and substrate mat transfer conveyors enter the assembly station on opposite sides thereof and transverse to a direction of transport of the transport sheets. A transport conveyor is provided for the transport of transport sheets carrying the underpadding and the stack of press materials from the assembly station to the platen press. The cover padding and the metal cover sheet are placed onto the stack of press materials on its way to the platen press by way of a cover padding and cover sheet lay-on tool. The apparatus can be operated at short cycle times and at the cycle time of an associated platen press.
