PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance combustibility in time of stratified combustion, and improve fuel consumption and emission by making the rotational direction of a swirl of an injector, seeing this injector from the side of a base end part, different from that of the swirl seeing a combustion chamber from the side of a cylinder head each other. SOLUTION: An injector 18 is set up in and around an interval between both inlet ports 12 and 12 at the peripheral edge of a combustion chamber 10 of a cylinder direct injection engine, and its fuel injection axis 26 is nearly accorded with that of the injector 18 itself, while it is set up so as to make it obliquely cross with a cylinder axis 25. In brief, in time of looking from a direction of this cylinder axis 25, the fuel injection axis 26 is set up so as to pass through the center of the top of a piston 5. Then this injector 18 is installed with a swirler in the tip part, but the rotational direction of this swirler in time of seeing the injector 18 from the side of a base end is set up clockwise. With this, a local air-fuel ratio in and around a spark plug 22 is made to be a yet properer value, thereby making improvements in combustibility in time of stratified combustion.
