PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain two factors such as high image quality and recording rate to be well in balance by setting the recording rate (drive frequency for a nozzle array) variably in accordance with the kind of a recording mode and the resolution. SOLUTION: When performing a multipass printing process using an identical recording head, for example, a second image drawing step is taken in case it is the distance L between an image 401 BK (resolution: 360 dpi) and an image 402 BK (resolution: 720 dpi)>2. In the resolution data as described, the resolution is 360 dpi for the image 401 BK but is to be doubled to 720 dpi and the printing action is to be taken based on this doubled resolution. The image is drawn using each of the identical sets of data twice. That is, the image drawing data obtained by doubling the resolution data at 360 dpi in a first scan and the data at 720 dpi are printed through an identical pass. In this case, the data is printed at a carriage speed for the 720 dpi and the recording head is driven at a frequency for the 720 dpi. The remaining 720 dpi data is printed in a second scan. Thus it is possible to realize a rapid printing process without deteriorating the resolution. |
