PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of reducing the content of methylsulfonyl chloride(MSC) of the formula: CH3 SO2 Cl in HCl gas as much as possible without requiring an extremely low temperature or an extremely complicated and inexpensive technique. SOLUTION: In order to remove methanesulfonyl chloride entrained with by-produced gaseous HCl, water is injected into a HCl gas flow in an amount of 0.01-20 wt.% based on the HCl to be treated, and the temperature is lowered to a temperature of <=15 deg.C.
