PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject dextran scarcely depositing a crystal even by use in a solution by regulating the content of boron to a lower value than a specific one. SOLUTION: This dextran is produced by regulating the content of boron to <0.30μg/g, preferably <=0.25μg/g, more preferably <=0.20μg/g (based on the dry material) expressed in terms of boron atom. The powder of the dextran can be utilized as a dextran solution such as a parenteral solution by dissolving the powder together with other ingredients in purified water, filling the resultant solution in a container such as a plastic bag or a glass vial, hermetically sealing the solution therein and thermally sterilizing the solution. The dextran is produced by dissolving (A) a boron-containing dextran in (B) a lower alcohol, converting the boron into a trialkyl borate represented by the formula B(OR3 )3 (R is a 1-4C lower alkyl), then separating the resultant trialkyl borate by filtration, etc., and drying the separated trialkyl borate. The component A may be any form of a powder and an aqueous solution.
