PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a refractory product excellent in strength characteristics, corrosion resistance and spalling resistance even in the case of inexpensive unburned products by adding an aqueous solution of magnesium chromate and sorbitol to a refractory composition containing a magnesian raw material and a chromia-based raw material. SOLUTION: An aqueous solution of magnesium chromate having 1.2-1.7 specific gravity in an amount of 0.5-6 pts.wt. and 0.1-1 pt.wt. sorbitol as forming auxiliary are added to 100 pts.wt. refractory composition containing a magnesian raw material having >=95% MgO component content, controlled so that crude grain size is 5-1 mm and middle grain size is 1-0.1 mm and fine grain size is $0.1 mm and selected from baked product or electromelting product produced from a natural raw material or an artificial raw material and a chromia-based raw material such as chromium ore, chromium oxide or magnesite-chrome clinker and these components are compounded. The resultant compound is kneaded and formed under pressure and dried at 100-500 deg.C to afford an unburned refractory product. As necessary, the unburned refractory is further baked at 1,700-1,750 deg.C to provide baked refractory product. |
