PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a slub yarn having an irregular stub length, capable of obtaining a woven and a knitted fabrics having a more natural touch which has been obtained by a conventional composite yarn and to provide a method for producing the slub yarn. SOLUTION: In this slub yarn comprising a sheath-core type composed of at least two kinds of filament yarns, at least single twist parts A, triple twist parts B and multiple twist parts C are formed respectively, by the sheath yarn and the core yarn of the sheath-core type composite yarn and the twist count (t) of the single twist parts characteristically satisfies the following equation 1,000<=1×(d1<1/2> +d2<1/2> )/D<1/2> $2,500 (in the equation, d1 is the denier of the core yarn, d2 is the denier of the sheath yarn and D is the total denier of [the core yarn + the sheath yarn] respectively.
