PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the blackening resistance of an Fe-Ni series shadow mask and to provide a shadow mask good in heat dispersibility. SOLUTION: This Fe-Ni series shadow mask material is the one in which the average grain size in the topmost surface on which blackened coating is formed is regulated to <=40μm. Preferably, the average grain size is regulated to <=30μm, or the content of Ni is regulated to, by weight, 34 to 38% and the content of sol. Al is regulated to <=50 ppm, and the contents of B and N also satisfy the relational inequality of B (ppm)-0.77.N (ppm)<=0.
