A process for the remediation of contaminated material, preferably soil, comprises mixing said contaminated material with a fortification material, typically aggregate, crushed rock, gravel or sand, and a filler, preferably Portland cement or lime, cold mixing the resulting mixture with an aqueous cationic bitumen emulsion having a pH of 2-5 and comprising 40-70% (w/w) bitumen with a penetration of 15-200 pen, breaking said emulsion to produce a remediated material coated with a layer of bitumen which may be used for roads, pavings or landfills. |
