Incineration process with combustion and post-combustion stages, with the post-combustion chamber (1) containing a packing (3) to trap dust carried by the combustion gases. The packing is based on elements without open porosity. Use in a post-combustion chamber of packing elements without open porosity, in particular silicon carbide, to trap dust carried by combustion gases The packing elements are silicon carbide, of cylindrical form with a diameter and height between 25 and 40mm, preferably between 25 and 30mm. The process includes the total or partial (preferably partial) extraction of the packing elements from the post- combustion chamber, extraction of the dust and recycling the undamaged elements. The dust extraction occurs in a multi- stage vibrating sieve from different stages of which emerge the dust-free undamaged packing, dust-free damaged packing and the dust. Radioactive waste is incinerated and the packing is extracted, the dust removed and the undamaged packing recycled. The heavily plutonium contaminated dust is recovered. Use in the post-combustion chamber of a nuclear waste incinerator.
