General construction follows established practice, with a chassis frame (15A,15B) carrying a wire basket (9) on 4 wheels. Under the basket are mounted a rechargeable battery (54) and two motors (12), each driving one rear wheel (2,3) through reduction gears, an elementary clutch and a toothed belt (7,8), or optionally a chain, in a protective case clamped to the frame members. The front wheels (4,5), in castering mountings (11) are not driven. Each motor is independently controlled by thumb-operated buttons (50,51) on the trolley handlebar (6). After starting, each motor automatically engages its associated drive mechanism, so the user has only one pushbutton operation to perform. A freewheel device allows the trolley to be pushed faster than the motors can drive. The trolley can be steered in either direction by running only the drive motor on the other side, and for ahead running both motors, or, optionally, either with some manual correction, are used.
