In a 4-layer version, the outer sheets (1a,1d) serve mainly to insulate the assembly from external contacts; additionally, the top sheet (1a) carries coordinate reference markings for the array of coincident perforations common to all sheets. The two inner sheets (1b,1c) have parallel conducting tracks (2a,2b), regularly perforated and orthogonally aligned. Each perforation accepts a metal socket (3) connected to the track, which is etched or deposited using printed circuit techniques, and connected to an external circuit when required by an end perforation (5). The insertion of a conducting plug at any particular location interconnects the tracks which, in plan, intersect at that point. Opt., the lowest layer is omitted and the sockets in the third are screw-threaded, accepting screw-plugs. In this case, opt., second and third layer tracks are applied on opposite sides of a single layer. Hollow corner rivets (6) hold the assembly together.
