The differential gear shaft runs parallel with the axis of the crank shaft and is driven directly or indirectly by the crank shaft, preferably at its rotational speed. The cylinder block (1) and light metal housing (2) each contain a lengthwise guide (3) fitting into matching halves (4,5). The guide is held by a screw connection (8,9) in the matching half of the cylinder block, and is held by a screw connection (6,7) in the matching housing half. Further housing support surfaces are joined by screw connections (11,12) to the cylinder block or lengthwise guide.
