Attempts have been made to clarify a substance which induces, via binding to vascular endothelial cell growth factor (VEGF) receptor KDR, the signal transduction of KDR and thus causes abnormal neovascularizations such as proliferation of solid tumor, metastasis formation, arthritis in rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity and psoriasis. Specifically a protein capable of binding to the intracellular domain of VEGF receptor KDR to thereby induce the signal transduction of KDR; a DNA encoding this protein; a recombinant DNA obtained by integrating the DNA into a vector; a transformant carrying this recombinant DNA; a process for producing the above protein with the use of the transformant; and an antibody recognizing the protein. The use of the KDR receptor protein DNA as described above makes it possible to clarify the VEGF receptor KDR signal transduction mechanism, and to treat diseases showing the progression of the symptoms due to abnormal neovascularizations such as proliferation of solid tumor, metastasis formation, arthritis in rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity and psoriasis.
