An actuator for adjusting headlight reflectors that can be tilted around an axis has a direct current motor which is used as a drive mechanism. Said motor acts upon a spindle drive by means of a gear. The threaded spindle of said drive performs a translational movement. A planetary-roller-threaded spindle gear(25) known from DE 37 39 059 is used as a spindle drive. The nut of the spindle (24) is fixed both axially and radially and is driven by the gear (22,23). An opto-electronic position sensor (29) is connected to the spindle rod (26) of the planetary-roller-threaded spindle gear(25). The position sensor (29) is connected to the spindle rod (26) to enable precise positioning of said rod.
