The present invention provides a spherical robot (10) having a spherical body (12) and a drive mechanism (14). The spherical body (12) defines a cavity and a center. The drive mechanism (14) is disposed within the cavity, coupled to the spherical body (12), and is adapted to create a moment about the center of the body. This moment causes the body to rotate. The present invention also includes a method for moving the body (12), by sensing the position and orientation of the body (12) relative to the target, calculating target angular velocities for rotating the body (12) to position the body (12) at the target position and orientation. |
