A carrier-free strip (3) of glue is placed between a base sheet (1) and a cover sheet (2) which is to be joined to the base sheet. The sheets (1, 2) are glued to one another under pressure. The glue strip (3) is dimensioned so that that its outer contour is smaller than that of the cover sheet. The sheets are welded to one another with a laser weld seam (4) running outside the outer contour of the glue strip.
