<p>The following are claimed: (1) a unicellular or multicellular organism, especially a microorganism, for the biotechnological production of riboflavin, where the glycine metabolism of the organism is modified to synthesise riboflavin without an external supply of glycine to a level at least equal to that of wild-type Ashbya gossypii ATCC 10895 when cultured under standard conditions with addition of 6 g/l glycine; (2) a threonine aldolase gene with a nucleotide sequence encoding a defined sequence of 382 amino acids given in the specification; (3) a genetic construct containing the threonine aldolase gene of (2); (4) a vector containing the gene of (2) or the construct of (3); (5) transformed organisms containing the gene of (2), the construct of (3) or the vector of (4); (6) a method for producing a riboflavin-producing unicellular or multicellular organism, comprising altering the organism in such a way that its glycine metabolism is modified as above.</p> |
