A fuel cell system has: one or more fuel cells which each have an anode (13), a cathode (11) and an electrolytic membrane (12) which is located between the anode and cathode; a first gas supply device (22) to supply a gas to the anode that has fuel gas; a second gas supply device (31) to supply a gas to the cathode that has oxygen; and supply devices (41) for water to supply water over a surface of the cathode. The latter devices spray the water over the cathode surface and have a nozzle for this. The nozzle is attached to a gas inlet distributer through which the second gas is passed to the cathode.
