536,959. Locking &c. coils. CAMINEZ, H. Dec. 8, 1939, No. 31797. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1938. Addition to 497,309. Drawing to Specification. [Class 89 (i)] Bolt and nut members according to the parent Specification have the diameters of the threads and the wire coil so selected that, on screwing up the bolt wedges the wire into the thread of the nut. The coil may be of stainless or austenitic steel, hard drawn bronze, nickel and high nickel alloys and may be plated with cadmium, zinc or chromium to avoid corroding the nut. The coil when of hard drawn wire may be chromium plated on the inner side only. The lands between the grooves in the bolt and nut members may be arranged to fit closely and the corners may be rounded to provide space for metal deformed from the coil. The first or entering turn of the coil is of reduced diameter and is provided with a tang to facilitate insertion and the coil is notched at a point remote from this end to enable the tang and leading end to be broken off after insertion of the coil. The trailing end of the wire may be tapered to facilitate insertion of the bolt. The invention is particularly applicable for securing sparking plugs in aluminium and like cylinders. |
