A self-propelled rock crushing machine (10) prepared according to the present invention utilizes the drive unit (12) to a conventional excavator of the type normally found in the construction industry. For simplified repairs or replacement of its components, each of the components on the self-propelled rock crushing machine (10) are removably secured to its vehicular frame. The components include a hopper (34) that stores material to be crushed, an apron feeder (36) that collects material from the hopper (34) and carries the material toward the crushing device (30), a grizzly separator (44) that separates undersize material from the larger material to be crushed, a crushing device (30), and a discharge conveyor (55) that receives crushed material and discharges the same from its outer end. A water tank (68) and pump (69) also are provided for preparing properly moisturized crushed material which is suited for backfill operations.
