Simplified production of hollow fiber bundles for dialysis filters

The hollow fibers are cut thermally, simultaneously melting and sealing the open ends together. Preferred features: The fibers are combined into a bundle before cutting. Their strands, running from the spinning machine, are first gathered together into a thicker bundle. They are cut and sealed as indicated. Now the bundle is inserted into a filter casing which is initially open at both ends. The ends are closed by casting molds. A single injection of casting mass closes both ends of the bundle. The bundles are cut off close to the cast mass. The filter casing caps are fitted on. The thermal cuter is a laser beam cutting unit, the fiber bundle being carried transversely through the beam, in rotation or translation. The cutter is alternatively a hot knife or wire, passing through sufficiently slowly, to ensure that the fibers are melted and sealed. Distribution of the fluid casting mass at the ends of the fibers is effected by centrifugal force, rotating the filter casing itself about a central point.
