Rail transporter and installation system

The appliance has a drive unit (12), to move a number of rail transporter wagons (14,a,b). Neighboring wagons are coupled to each other via a coupling rope arrangement. Each wagon has a rail support section for at least one rail (40). A rail lifter device (18) moves the rail onto or off the wagon. To deposit a rail on a wagon, the distance between two, preferably all neighboring wagons is increased. To remove a rail, the distance between the wagons is reduced.
