[Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI) A rectifier or like blocking-layer electrode system especially for high-frequency work comprises a carrier plate for one electrode rigidly connected to a rigid contact-carrier for the other electrode, the latter having a channel filled with the contact material. In the example selenium is borne on a carrier plate 1 of aluminium, which is held rigidly with a carrier 3 of insulating material, for the contact material 8 by wedging in a coned clamp 4, the upper edge 12 of which may be flanged over. A washer 11 prevents the carrier 3 from bearing directly on the counter electrode 10 which lies within the cavity 7 formed by the washer. Molten material 8 of low melting point is poured into the metal lining 6 of the channel 5 to fuse with the counter electrode, which may be of the same material or to spread out over the blocking layer on the selenium itself to form the counter electrode. The contact material may be of graphite. |
