Rail vehicle drive arrangement

A rail vehicle drive arrangement comprises means to sense the curvature of the track in front of the vehicle and means to control the relative speed of the wheels on each side of the vehicle in response to the sensed curvature. As shown, fig 2, each wheel 12 of rail vehicle 10 has a synchronous motor 14 and frequency inverter 16 connected to a microcontroller 24. A pair of sensors 18 in front of the vehicle 10 detect rail alignment and are also connected to microcontroller 24, which controls the realtive speed of the inside and outside wheels so that no wheel slippage occurs. Further sensors 26 are located adjacent each wheel to detect the alignment of each wheel relative to the track.
