PURPOSE:To provide the sintered artificial aggregate used for paving roads and having excellent mechanical strength and high abrasion resistance, and to provide the method for advantageously producing the same. CONSTITUTION:Aluminum trihydroxide or aluminum trioxide, silica or kaolin, and magnesium hydroxide or magnesium oxide are used for an Al2O3 source raw material, a SiO2 source raw material, and a MgO source raw material, respectively. The raw materials are compounded with each other so as to contain >=60wt.% of Al2O3, 0-40wt.% of SiO2 and 0-5wt.% of MgO, the total amount of the raw materials and inevitable impurities originated from the raw materials being 100wt.%. The compounded product is ground and mixed into particles having an average particle diameter of <=300mum, molded into a molded product having a prescribed size, and subsequently sintered at temperature of >=1700 deg.C to produce the sintered artificial aggregate having a minute structure having an apparent porosity of <=8.0%. |
