A low battery voltage alarm device for use in a portable radio device, stores a plurality of alarm sounds from which one may be selected and set as the alarm, thus helping the radio device user distinguish the alarm sound of his device from that of other nearby devices. Information on several kinds of alarm sounds is stored in alarm sound information storage means (2, fig. 2). A user may operate an operation section (3, fig. 2) which selects one of the alarm sounds and sets it as an alarm sound for informing the user of a drop in battery voltage. Thus when a low voltage detector (1, fig. 2) detects that the battery voltage of the radio device is lower than a reference voltage, it sends a low voltage detection signal to a controller (4, fig. 2) which retrieves the selected alarm sound information from the storage means (2, fig 2) and passes it to an alarm sound generator 5, which produces the selected alarm. The alarm sounds may include periodic alarms, periodic volume-stepped alarms and a tune (see figure 4). |
