METHOD OF REGENERATING USED INORGANIC ADSORBENTS AND USE OF THE REGENERATED MATERIAL

The disclosure pertains to a process for regenerating used inorganic adsorbents such as bleaching earth or synthetically produced adsorbents and/or bleaching earth/activated carbon mixtures. The carbon-containing residues which adhere to the adsorbents are oxidised by heat treatment in a fluidised bed containing an inert granular material at temperatures below 1000 DEG C and removed from the adsorbent. The regenerated adsorbent is then separated from the granular inert material. The process is characterised in that the temperature in the fluidised bed is set at about 600-700 DEG C and the temperature in the free gas volume is set at a temperature not exceeding the temperature in the fluidised bed.
