PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a wide driving margin by preventing crosstalk due to the growth of an inverted domain from a pixel gap part as to a liquid crystal element which uses chiral smectic liquid crystal. SOLUTION: When liquid crystal which is easy to move in a liquid crystal layer is used, a rubbing processing is performed in a direction 3 crossing the rubbing direction 2 of the majority in a pixel part 1 at right angles outwardly from nearby a pixel end part 12 parallel to the rubbing direction 2 to form an orientation defect 4 parallel to the end part 12 nearby the end part 12 in the pixel part 1, and the liquid crystal is oriented so that the normal direction of a smectic layer cross the end part at right angles at any end part forming the pixel part 1. |
