<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyarylene ether excellent in heat resistance refractive index and film processability and minimized in the loss of a light-absorption wave in an optical communication region, by bringing the polyarylene ether to have a specific structure. SOLUTION: This polyarylene ether for optical communications is obtained by bringing the ether to have a structure expressed by the formula X1 to X4 are each H, F or Cl; Y1 and Y2 are each H or F; Q1 and Q2 are each H or Cl; A is O, S, P(OR) (R is trifluoromethyl, trichloromethyl or the like), C(CF3 )2 , (CF2 )1 [(1) is 1-8] or the like; (m1 ) is 1 or 2; (m2 ) is 0-2; 0<n<1, 0<k<1 [(n) and (k) are each a mole fraction and n+k=1]}. The polyarylene ether preferably has 1×10<4> -1.2×10<5> number average molecular weight, 450-550 deg.C heat degradation temperature and 180-200 deg.C glass transition temperature. The polyarylene ether is useful as optical communication elements for 600-1700 nm wave length regions.</p> |
