PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the overall communication time and to attain connections other terminals than a specific terminal when the terminal is selected, in compliance with the protocol of the recommendations T.30. SOLUTION: Specific information of a terminal connecting to a facsimile equipment that is called a terminal is registered in the facsimile equipment. A facsimile equipment 1 inserts the specific information of the registered terminal to the protocol (NSF) of the recommendations T.30 and sends the resulting protocol data to a caller terminal. A data modem of the caller receives the NSF and detects that a data modem 11 connects to the called facsimile equipment 1, then the caller data modem sends the protocol NSS(non-standard function setting) to declare that the communication is made throughout a data modem. Upon the receipt of the NSS, the called facsimile equipment connects the data modem to a line via a line changeover section.
