<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method whereby the modification and mol.wt. reduction of a fossil fuel, a vulcanized rubber, or a high-molecular compd. can be carried out at a low cost. SOLUTION: This method, accompanied by hydrocracking caused by the hydrogen-donating action of water, comprises mixing a fossil fuel (e.g. coal, oil sand oil, orinoco oil, or shale oil), a high-molecular compd. contg. heteromolecules (e.g. a vulcanized rubber), or a high-molecular compd. contg. no heteromolecule with water, the reaction solvent, charging the resultant mixture into a reactor, and stirring the mixture in the substantial absence of hydrogen or a hydrogen donor at such high temp. and pressure that water is in the supercritical or subcritical state.</p> |
