<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inter-vehicular distance measuring method which can measure the distance to a vehicle ahead, without being affected by the shape and material of the vehicle, by processing an image of the vehicle ahead, and estimating the distance to the vehicle ahead from the size of letters on a rear number plate extracted by time image processing. SOLUTION: An image of a vehicle ahead is processed, and the distance to the vehicle head is measured from the size of letters on a rear number plate which are extracted by the image processing. This method includes a letter extraction step (100) for extracting the letters from the image of the vehicle ahead, a letter size calculation step (110) for calculating the size of the letters extracted by the letter extraction step, and an intervehicular distance calculation step (120) for calculating the distance to the vehicle ahead from the size of the letters calculated by the letter size calculation step.</p> |
