PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a barrier rib with high aspect ratio, high fineness, no defect such as coloring or peeling off by limiting the carbon of the barrier rib to the specified weight percent or less in a substrate on which the barrier rib is formed. SOLUTION: The carbon content of a barrier rib formed in a substrate for a plasma display is limited to 0.1 wt.% or less, preferably to 0.03 wt.% or less. If the carbon content of the barrier rib exceeds 0.1 wt.%, the barrier rib is colored in brown, and in the panel discharge, when ultraviolet rays strike against a phosphor, are excited, and emit light, the light is absorbed in the barrier rib, and luminance and contrast are reduced. When the carbon content in the barrier plate exceeds 0.1 wt.% by unsuitable selection of photosensitive paste for forming the barrier rib, vaporization of an organic component in the baking of the barrier rib does not occur smoothly, and that may cause the stripping off of the barrier rib from the substrate or a dielectric layer, and the generation of bending or meandering of the barrier rib. Preferably, the height of the barrier rib is made 60-160μm and the width is made 20-200μm.
