PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information recording medium which exhibits a high reflectivity even at a short wavelength and makes it possible to obtain a high recording and reproducing contrast and recording and reproducing method therefor. SOLUTION: This optical information recording medium allows recording and reproducing of information by irradiation with a laser beam and has the layer constitution consisting of a substrate/recording layer/(low-refractive index layer/high-refractive index layer) m (where m is the number of lamination). The recording and reproducing are executed with this recording medium from its substrate side. The recording medium described above is characterized in that (1) m is >=1 and (2) all of the film thickness of the recording layer, the low-refractive index layer and the high-refractive index layer are n1 d1 =λ0 /4 (where n1 is the refractive index of the respective layer materials; d1 is the film thickness of the respective layer materials and λ0 is a recording and reproducing wavelength) at least at the reproduction wavelength. |
