Complexes of ~b-lactam antibiotics and polyhydroxy-naphthalenes or -quinolines (I) are new. Complexes of ~b-lactam antibiotics and compounds of formula (I) are new: X = C or N; m, n = 0 or more, provided that m+n = 2 or more. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) preparation of a complex of a ~b-lactam antibiotic and a compound (I), comprising acylating a ~b-lactam nucleus in the presence of (I) and optionally isolating the complex and releasing the antibiotic from the complex; (2) a process for isolating a ~b-lactam antibiotic, comprising contacting the antibiotic with a compound (I) and isolating the resulting complex and optionally releasing the antibiotic from the complex. |
