PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for operating picture base diagnosis of a machine for quickly diagnosing a malfunction of the machine from an artifact picture with which complicate error log and an unknown cause are related. SOLUTION: This is a system and method for operating picture base diagnosis. A history artifact picture 30 and a corresponding processing for recovering this artifact are collected, and stored in a database 12. A new artifact picture 54 having unknown failure is diagnosed by using the database constituted of the history artifact picture and the corresponding processing.
