PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ISDN telephone set holding sound selection device that makes it possible to listen to a holding sound which perfectly matches the taste of a caller without being influenced by the other party and can quickly switch to a favorite holding sound. SOLUTION: In a holding side telephone terminal 1, when a speech state changes to that of a holding set and a holding notifying part 12 notifies a Bch transmission part 11 that the holding side telephone terminal 1 is in the holding state, the Bch transmission part 11 transmits holding state notification data to an ISDN network 3. When a Bch reception part 21 receives Bch data from the holding side telephone terminal 1, a communicated party holding recognition part 22 detects the holding state notification data from the holding side telephone terminal 1 and notifies a reception path changeover part 24 of reception of the holding state notification data. When the reception path changeover part 24 recognizes holding of the other party's terminal, it switches the reception path to a favorite holding sound of a caller generated by a self holding recognition part 23.
