PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor in which the dry-up of electrolyte can be prevented without deteriorating the conductivity of the electrolyte. SOLUTION: In an electric double layer capacitor equipped with a cell 1 constituted of an activate carbon electrode 11 and a separator 12 or the like, the cell 1 is coated with polymer 2. The polymer 2 can be a water absorptive polymer group with polyethylene glycol with basic composition, PVA and PVB polymer, or vinyl system high polymer such as a derivative. Also, silica and silica gel can be distributed on the polymer 2.
