LIGHT DIFFUSION FILM AND ITS MANUFACTURE, POLARIZING PLATE WITH DIFFUSION LAYER, AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the light diffusion film thick, to eliminate restrictions of a diffusing agent and resin which constitute the diffusion layer, and to improve the display quality without causing birefringence when the film is used for a liquid crystal display, etc. SOLUTION: The light diffusion film 10 has a diffusion layer 18 formed by coating one or both the surfaces of a transparent base material film 12 of TAC(triacetate cellulose), etc., with a paint obtained by mixing a light diffusing agent 14 such as resin beads with light-transmissive resin 16. The haze value of the surface of the diffusion layer 18 is >=3 and the differences in haze value between the normal direction and the directions of ±60 deg. from the normal are <=4; and the surface of the diffusion layer 18 is flattened to surface roughness of <=Ra=0.2 μm to reduce diffuse reflection which causes whitening at the time of display and the differences in haze value depending upon a visual angle are made small to improve the display quality.
