PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which has high reflectivity to light of a prescribed wavelength and an excellent signal output characteristic and allows recording and reproducing without reading-out destruction and an optical recording and reproducing method. SOLUTION: This optical recording medium has the constitution sequentially formed with at least a recording layer 2 contg. dyestuffs for absorbing recording light, an intermediate layer 3 and a reflection layer 4 on a transparent substrate 1 and satisfies (ε=ε1 -iε2 ), ε1 >=4 and ε2 >=5 or satisfies 2>=ε1 0 and ε2 <=1 when the real part of the complex specific dielectric constant ε of the recording layer of recording light and the reproducing waveform of reproducing light is defined as ε1 and the imaginary part thereof as ε2 . The optical recording medium satisfies (ε'=ε'1 -iε'2 ), ε'1 >=4 and ε'2 >=5 or satisfies 2>=ε'1 >=0 and ε'2 <=2 when the real part of the complex specific dielectric constant ε' of the recording layer at the reproducing waveform of the reproduction light below the recording wavelength is defined as ε'1 and the imaginary part thereof as ε'2 . This optical recording and reproducing method uses such media. |
