PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to further promote cost reduction, power conservation, and miniaturization. SOLUTION: The above-mentioned purposes are solved by providing a reflection optical modulator 10 with two optical modulators with well-matched characteristics by coupling in parallel the plural optical modulators consisting of an optical waveguide element and a modulating electrode formed on the same substrate, and further, an optical transmission path between a light source 11 and an optical circulator 12 is constituted with an inexpensive single mode optical fiber 21 by making an outgoing beam of the light source 11 incident on the reflection modulators 10 while splitting the beam into two polarized light components through a polarized light splitter/combiner 14. Moreover, the reflection type optical modulator 10 can be achieved with a transmission optical modulator by separating the polarized light splitter/combiner 14 into a polarized light a splitter and a polarized light combiner in function. |
